Summary
The longest of the 18 Parvas, the Aranyaka Parva narrates the Pandavas' 12-year exile in the wilderness. During this period, they encounter divine sages, acquire celestial weapons, and hear stories within stories — including the famous tales of Nala and Damayanti, Savitri and Satyavan, and Rama's exile. Arjuna travels to heaven to obtain divine weapons from Indra. The Pandavas grow in wisdom, strength, and resolve during their exile, preparing for the challenges ahead....

Adi Parva — Chapter 12 Adiparvan · v1 रुरुरुवाच कथं हिंसितवान्सर्पान्क्षत्रियो जनमेजयः सर्पा वा हिंसितास्तात किमर्थं द्विजसत्तम Ruru said: "O supreme among the Brāhmana-s! Why did King Janamejaya cause violence to the snakes and how did he destroy them? रुरु ने कहा: "हे ब्राह्मणों में श्रेष्ठ! राजा जनमेजय ने साँपों पर हिंसा क्यों की और उन्हें कैसे नष्ट किया?" Adiparvan · v2 किमर्थं मोक्षिताश्चैव पन्नगास्तेन शंस मे आस्तीकेन तदाचक्ष्व श्रोतुमिच्छाम्यशेषतः O best of the Brāhmana-s! Why were the snakes saved by the wise Āstīka? You will hear the great history of Āstīka from a Brāhmaṇa who will recount it." On his asking, his father told him the entire story. होश में आने पर वह घर लौटा और अपने पिता से पूछा। उसके पूछने पर उसके पिता ने उसे सारी कहानी बतायी।
